The slim duo of sound sticks is bi-amped, which – even for techies in training – should sound pretty awesome. The basic benefit of such a system is that it protects against clipping (speaker overload) and reduces distortion.

can I plug these speakers to my Samsung galaxy S5 ?

These speakers are "active" or "self powered". They accept a standard headphone jack input so anything that has 3.5mm jack output can be plugged into them. All they need is an input from laptop/iPod/mp3 player device to play the songs, movie etc..
Nick Young

Yes, the speakers have a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable that fits into the galaxy s4 headphones slot.
Neeraj Patel

through the audio jack, sure. like any computer speaker or normal headphone it uses a 3.5mm cable.

How long is cable from ac outlet to speakers and how long is audio cable from speakers to laptop? Thx

Haven't done a precise measure, but looks like about 4 or 5 feet from electrical outlet to main speaker. About the same between speakers I would judge.

The cable between the left and right speakers is 5'10" in length. I haven't looked into getting an extension, but you can check Edifier's website, http://www.edifier.com/speakers/e10-exclaim-compact-computer-speakers, call them at 1 (877) 334 3437 or email them at service@edifier.ca.

Can the volume be easily turned completely off with the speaker controls without changing the computer volume level (and so over-riding the latter)?

If you hold the volume-down button on the speaker for a few seconds, there will be no sound coming out of the speakers. However, the speakers' power light remains on.
JayCeeEn

Yes. The volume control lowers it to zero. You can also turn them off with the power button just beneath the volume controls.
Stewart

There is a set of buttons on the side of one of the speakers: + / - and on/off.

Would they work well connected to a preamp? turntable ==> preamp ==> rca y adapter (rca white & rca red male to 3.5mm female)

These are self powered speakers which only takes line level input. Connection wise a 3.5mm male to dual RCA cable should do.

How do you know how far the volume is up on the actual speaker? It doesn't seem to correlate with computer volume.

Steven, You have a valid point. I simply count the number of increments on the speaker as an "indirect" scale of volume, find a base-line volume level, but I actually prefer to use the more sensitive volume increments from my computer once I set an initial speaker volume. Indeed, there is no meter or indicator of volume level on the speakers - only incremental increase and decrease controls. I happen to be more satisfied with the controls coming from my computer. It may be a matter of preference, but I remain pleased with the sound, reliability, and value of the speakers as well as controlling the fine volume tuning from my computer rather than getting up from my chair and having to reach for the speakers.

Strange chemical smell ? They have a strong chemical smell, not only when taking them out of the box, but also days later. Anyone else noticed?

Depends on the smell. If it is a plasticky smell, it is due to it being a new product, all plastics emit an odor for a short time. A week out of the box and it will be gone, even a few hours in the sun will do it. If it is a burning smell, it could be a short circuit, if so return it.

Does anyone know is the input for these is 220v-110v ?

I purchased these in the US (110v) after seeing a friend's pair in the UK (220v). From my experience, I have used US electronics in the UK & Europe with either a power transformer or just a plug adapter (easier) and vice-versa. However, if you live in the UK or Europe, you can pick up a pair over there for 220v. Hope that helps.

Anybody knows what's the bluetooth version?

I can't see any specs that say what it is. I can say it works fine with my ancient samsung galaxy s II which has Bluetooth v3.0, A2DP but I don't know if my phone is falling back to some earlier protocol like 2.x. My iFive x2 tablet is more modern with Bluetooth v4.0 and also connects but again I don't know if it is falling back to some earlier protocol. Sorry I can't help more.

Would these speakers work well with a 32" samsung tv? how wide are the speakers and how high is the round part?

As long as you have the proper audio port on the TV it should work. The speakers are approximately 4" at the widest and approximately 5" is the highest part of the base (round part). These specifications are all available on the manufacturer's website. Hope this helped.

Can I turn down the bass if I still think the bass is too strong?

There are volume controls and a power switch. That's about it. The bass on these things is nice, but it's certainly not booming unless you turn the volume up really high. Fairly well balanced for an inexpensive pair of speakers.

can these speakers be powered by USB?

No. They have a conventional electric cable (small plug on speaker side, mains plug on other) and no USB ports. These are *not* small, portable speakers, but are about a foot high and 6" deep. They are pretty good speakers -- akin to the low-end studio monitors that I have on some other systems rather than anything you'd get from a portable set. I replaced an old 5.1 gaming sound system with these, and have been happy with them.

Is it possible to alter the angle of the speakers so the silver is standing vertical?

No. They are fixed in one position.
R. Carroll

No you cannot. Every professional review I've read on these (about 10 so far) comment on the angle as an asset. If you place the speakers on the same surface as your computer, the angle directs the sound toward your ears. Most speakers direct the sound to your chest which is why they make little speaker stands so you can elevate those. I usually put my speakers on shelves that are slightly above my shoulders (which are at the same level as my Mac Mini cpu) which isn't a good option for these speakers so I am trying to configure my wall unit to accommodate them better.

Can I use a subwoofer I already own with these for a full sound?

The audio signal from your computer is line level ( un-amplified). If your Subwoofer has it's own amplifier(probably does), you may be able to "split" the signal before the speakers with an audio signal splitter. You'll have to research it.
